The idea first came up in November of 2016 when Mayor Sarah Gurney\, together with Cittaslow Sebastopol\, put on a breakfast for the local non-profits. Our local charitable organizations contribute greatly to the community spirit in Sebastopol. The Mayor wanted to find out what they needed by way of support.\n\n\n\nMike Mortensson of the Gravenstein Lions Club suggested a day of service as a way to get projects done and to increase visibility in the community. He called it "Lend-A-Hand Day Sebastopol".
