Bibliophoria 2014 -a Celebration of the Book
Bibliophoria 2014 kicks off June 12, 2014, at Sebastopol Center for the Arts with the opening of three book arts exhibits: Bibliophoria III Juried Exhibition, Bound Together: Tablet to Tablet, and Bind, Stitch, Fold: Sonoma County Book Arts Guild Show. Events continue through July 25. All for the Love of Books! Events include the Street Printing Festival featuring local artists, authors, businesses and pavement roller printmaking; Carving Workshops for the Festival; a week-long Book Arts Camp for Kids 8 to 12 years old; Bibliophoria Walk; Book Arts Workshops. What is a book? Where is its future? How does technology shape our relationship to words and images, thinking and imagining, ideas and culture, community and the local economy? Bibliophoria 2014 explores these questions in six weeks of events focused on book arts-traditional bookmaking to contemporary artistry and new technology. Sebastopol is at the crossroads of a county rich with writers, artists and innovators, where books and the arts are essential to local flavor. The town is book-ended by traditional letterpress printing Iota Press on 116 south and cutting-edge O’Reilly Media to the north. Books constantly evolve-papyrus to paperback, letterpress to offset, ink to pixels. As technology changes our access to books, how does it shape our relationship to “the book” as individuals and as a culture? For more about events and local tie-ins, visit bibliophoria.com or call Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 707. 829.4797. The art exhibits, Street Printing Festival, Bibliophoria Walk, and Poetry Reading are open to the public. Visit Bibliophoria.com for details and to register for other events.
