CABINET OF CURIOSITIES, Paintings by Lucy Martin
Lucy has always loved the surprising and mysterious, the odd or unusual, in nature. Her botanical art focuses mainly on fungi and lichens, but she also loves to paint shells, strange rocks, salamanders, decaying leaves and moths (to give a few examples). Her paintings in gouache will awaken the wonder and delight of the often overlooked treasures of nature. Lucy's show is a tribute to the Cabinets of Curiosities, also called Wonder Rooms, developed in the 16th Century, and precursors of modern natural history museums. Reception: June 21, from 3-5. Demonstration/Artist Talk: July 12, 4pm.
