Light and Shadow
“Light and Shadow”, an exhibit of original art, will be on display at the Occidental Center for the Arts from July 12 to September 1. In visual arts, light and shadow defines form, sets mood, provides contrast, and creates interest. Visitors to the exhibit will see light and shadow interpreted in many ways—literally, figuratively, and psychologically in both realism and abstraction. Contemporary artists, such as Lorenzo Lo Vermi, and more classical artists, such as Edgar Degas, capitalized on the use of light and shadow to bring life to their paintings. Sonoma County countryside is full of vibrant life that begs to be captured in an artist’s work Well known watercolor artist, Marcia Connell, is the show’s juror. The artists’ reception is Saturday, July 13, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Primarily local artists contribute to the OCA Gallery exhibit and represent the diversity of art in our community, from traditional, to representational, to abstract. Like our West County community, anything goes. Oftentimes the entries reflect highly personal, unique ways of visualizing—demonstrating free-expression that artists do not get taught in art school. To encourage art appreciation, our Gallery will accept entries from artists who have never exhibited before. Repeat visitors to the OCA Gallery can follow the development of individual artists over time. Most of the original paintings and all of the prints and cards will be on sale. Admission and refreshments are free. Attendees will receive a discount coupon for a restaurant dinner that evening in Occidental. Donations to the OCA Gallery are gratefully accepted. We appreciate community investment in local artists
