Find out more about this training (classes start March 27)! Orientation will include an overview of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, the work of the Laguna Foundation, an introduction to the training course and each of the volunteer jobs, plus snacks, activities, and an opportunity to meet members of the Laguna Education Team. Being a Laguna education team volunteer is a fun and enriching way to make new friends and contribute to the community! Volunteer to teach or support Laguna education programs in the schools, at the Laguna Environmental Center, along the trails or at community events throughout the watershed. There are three Laguna education volunteer jobs to choose from: 1) Docent - teach children in the Learning Laguna school program; 2) Guide - teach about the Laguna during public education programs and trail walks; 3) Greeter - support the smooth running of Heron Hall and provide outreach at community events. During the training course all volunteers will be together to learn about wetlands, ecology, plants, birds and other animals of the Laguna de Santa Rosa in the classroom and in the field at Laguna Preserves. Then, trainees are divided into tracks to learn and practice the specifics of each volunteer job. Docent training is approximately 46 hours, including observation time spent in elementary classrooms and on school field trips. Guides spend 32 hours in training. Greeters train in 8 hours. Everyone has the option to attend additional educational outings to Laguna locations not usually open to the public.
