RARE POND SPECIES Survey Techniques Workshop
MARCH 25-26, 2017 - SATURDAY lecture (8:00am-1:00pm) & SUNDAY field trip (10:00am-10:30pm)
$400. Pre-registration required: www.lagunafoundation.org
This workshop is designed to provide practical training on aquatic survey techniques for the California tiger salamander (CTS), California red-legged frog (CRLF) and western pond turtle (WPT).
Herpetologists Dave Cook and Jeff Alvarez will review basic biology and ecology of CTS, CRLF and WPT including identification of life stages, USFW and CDFW regulations and approved survey protocols. The field trip portion will include four locations to differing habitats and hands-on experience in aquatic survey techniques including dip net sampling for CTS larvae, evening spotlighting for frogs, and turtle visual encounter and trapping.
Dave and Jeff specialize in amphibian and reptile ecology and conservation, conduct herpetological research, and hold state and federal permits for these three pond species.
This is a companion workshop to the California Tiger Salamander Terrestrial Ecology Workshop held on March 24, 2017.
