Sebastopol Canter for the Arts New Exibition - ''PEOPLES''
Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA) announces the opening of "Peoples", a juried, multi-media exhibit with focus on representation of the body and the essence of human experience. The human experience is interpreted through the range of human emotion-love, loss, suppression, aggression, envy, and isolation. Highly varied approaches within the ?Peoples? exhibit include all media, and range from realistic portraiture, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. Whether dramatic or quietly intimate, this exhibition changes the way we think and perceive art?s oldest subject, ?Peoples? and their experience. Jenny Lynn Hall, show curator and artist, studied Painting and Scenic Design at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Turin, Italy, and Painting and Graphic Design at California College of the Arts. Jenny Lynn's paintings and installations have shown in various exhibitions in Europe and the United States, and she has worked in film and theater as a scenic artist, production designer and producer. For ?Peoples?, Jenny Lynn selected approximately 60 works from over 300 submissions to create this unique show. ?Peoples? Opening Reception , complete with Jenny Lynn's presentation of the "Best in-Show" and "Merit Award" will be on Friday, February 27 from 6-7:30 pm in the Galletta Gallery. "Peoples" will show from February 27 thru March 29. This event is free to the public. Concurrently in Gallery II is "Five beyond the Bridge". Five active artists, including Chester Arnold, Frances McCormick, Kurt Kemp, Jennifer Sturgill and Mark Perlman, all of whom have shown both nationally and internationally, present their work. These artist-teachers are currently teaching throughout the Bay Area, including - Sonoma State University, San Francisco Art Institute, and Marin College. In Gallery III enjoy "In My Imagination", a series of oil paintings on canvas by Mary Sanders. Mary Sanders is inspired by people and their stories. Her art is fueled by her imagination, as she paints that which she ?feels?, in the vibrant colors that are a hallmark of her work. Travel influences her art and especially her trips to Africa, where the people have captured her heart.
