Sonoma County Library Presents: In-person Author Talk and Writing Workshop with Reyna Grande
An immigrant herself, Reyna Grande is the author of the memoirs “The Distance Between Us” and “A Dream Called Home,” and the novels “Across a Hundred Mountains,” “Dancing With Butterflies” and “A Ballad of Love and Glory.”
Grande said, “Have you been wanting to write about your immigrant experiences? Then this is the workshop for you! Through in-class writing activities, group readings, and a discussion on craft, you will get a chance to write the stories you need to tell. Come prepared to write, share and celebrate!”
About the Author: Writing about immigration, family separation, language trauma, the price of the American Dream, and her writing journey, Reyna’s work has appeared in The New York Times, the Dallas Morning News, CNN, The Lily at The Washington Post, Buzzfeed, among others. In March 2020, she was a guest on Oprah’s Book Club television special.
This presentation will kick off a call for submissions of immigrant’s stories of coming to the U.S. for an anthology called “Arrivals and Departures”. For more information on how to participate in the anthology, email: jayala@sonomalibrary.org
The California Humanities Library Innovation Lab in partnership with the Sonoma County Library Adult Literacy Program are also creating an anthology entitled “Arrivals and Departures.” This collection will feature stories of immigrants throughout Sonoma County and highlight their experience in their own words.
Share your story about leaving your home country and seeking your future in the United States. Submissions are accepted in written and oral form and are due by September 30. Visit sonomalibrary.org/arrivals-departures to learn more.
