Taize Medittation Good Friday Sebastopol Methodist Church
GGOD FRIDAY : TAIZE MEDITATION The Sebastopol Methodist Church will have a special service to mark Good Friday, April 3, from 4 to 5 p.m., with an ecumenical service of song, chant, scripture and meditation originating from the Taize monastic community of Taize, France. Founded in 1940, by a Swiss individual Fr. Roger Schutz who became a monastic, Taize worship is a meditative, ecumenical form of Christian prayer characterized by simple, repetitive songs and chants, Scripture readings, periods of profound silence, and candlelight. Led by pianist and cantor Andy Darrow, the service focuses on peace, contemplation, and reconciliation. The spirit of Taize is to foster peace among all people. The simple service consists of song, using the simple chants of the Taize community, scripture, extended periods of silence, and prayers for the world. Taize prayer is widely practiced in student religious centers and retreat houses, and draws 100,000 visitors annually to its center in France.
